When architects join a discussion on VDI, you realized it truly has become mainstream. As John Webster just wrote in CNET, “VDI is hot, not only with IT practitioners, but with professionals of many stripes.”

This was Webster’s conclusion after delivering a talk to a room that he expected to be filled with IT enthusiasts. To his surprise,  the audience wasn’t just your traditional IT administrators, it also included people from other fields, even architects eager to learn about how VDI could change the design of class rooms. While his talk has three parts, it was the section on VDI that really gained the attention of the audience and provoked further discussion throughout the Q/A, specifically around VDI in education and healthcare.

At Virtual Bridges, we firmly agree with Webster. We have been working closely with a number of education organizations, K-12 districts as well as higher ed and are proud of the results these clients are seeing. But we know this is just the beginning. With VDI Gen2, we have made it easier than ever to manage virtual desktops and deliver an experience users enjoy. The potential for this industry is tremendous. We’re excited to be leading the charge.

K-12 school districts are one of the many verticals that experience tremendous value from VDI. Check out this recent article from T.H.E. Journal, Stretching IT Budgets with Open Source and Virtualization, featuring Virtual Bridges customer, Jeremy Fluhmann, technology director for Winters Independent School District.

Fluhmann walks through his experience with VERDE including the multiple benefits he anticipates, including the elimination of the annual refresh cycle for computers that the district can’t afford over the long haul. “Computers are getting more powerful, but for most of our stuff, we don’t need that extra power. In a way it would feel like we were throwing away money to buy a general use computer and not really use it for even a fraction of its power. This way, we can likely go 10 years with these desktops.”

Virtual Bridges VDI helps K-12 organizations save on support costs, extend the life of aging desktops, improve security and simplify desktop management. If you’d like to hear more about how VDI Gen 2 can help your district, let us know!
